About Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering
The department of Civil and Architectural Engineering was established in 2001 by gathering the technical disciplines at KTH involved in education and research for structural engineering of the built environment, construction management and adaptation of technology to the environment, such as rock and water.
Both the housing- and construction sector are represented. As for the housing construction area the level of competence is well established on both depth as well as width, and the educational and research competence are adapted to the need of the sector. Building technology, material and installation issues as well as load-bearing structures are important parts of the profile. The department also has a unique competence for Sweden in the field of construction where research, postgraduate education and undergraduate education are well integrated.
The technical branches of learning, subject areas, are organized into 7 divisions. These are Building Materials, Sustainable buildings, Concrete Structures, Constructional Engineering and Design, Soil and Rock Mechanics, Structural Engineering and Bridges, Highway and Railway Engineering and Transport Planning.
