Telford Premium award till Carl Wersäll

The winner of this year’s Ground Improvement Telford Premium award is Liquefaction induced by deep vertical vibratory compaction by K. Rainer Massarsch, Carl Wersäll and Bengt H. Fellenius.

Carl Wersäll, Soil and Rock Mechanics and Rainer Massarsch, former Soil and Rock Mechanics received the award at The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in London 2022-10-14.

Published in Ground Improvement, the journal’s editorial panel said

‘An interesting and highly original paper in which, from observations of liquefaction when using vertically oscillating probes for ground improvement, the use of such plant as liquefaction testing machines is postulated. Observations and analysis from three case histories (with different methods of deep vertical vibratory compaction in loose saturated sand; with pre and post treatment CPT) are presented with excellent clarity.’
