Personalized proacti ve provision of travel informati on in public transport
Project name: Personalized proacti ve provision of travel informati on in public transport, FoUI-992077
Project manager: Matej Cebecauer, Transportplanering
Participating partners: Oded Cats, Zhenliang Ma, Michelle Toinette van Ardenne
Project period: 2024- 2025
Funding: Region Stockholm
The population of the Stockholm region is projected to reach 3.4 million by 2050, which is a 50% increase compared to today's 2.4 million. This rapid population growth will lead to increased traffic congestion and overcrowding in public transport. The high demand for travel is already causing noise, pollution, congestion, and stress for commuters and residents in metropolitan areas. Traditional measures to reduce congestion onboard require significant investments to increase the frequency and capacity of public transport services.
The overall motivation of this project is to contribute to a sustainable, robust, attractive, reliable, and efficient public transport system in the Stockholm region. To achieve this, the project explores cost-effective methods based on data-driven personalization and proactive information delivery. Providing the right information to the right target audience can greatly impact the system's performance and passenger satisfaction. There is enormous potential in smoothing out the demand peaks that cause overcrowding.
Congestion, delays, and disruptions are the top-priority issues identified by the Transport Administration. A detailed longitudinal ticket validation database will be used for data-driven personalization and synthetic simulation experiments to evaluate the potential of data-driven personalization, implemented through analytics and artificial intelligence (AI), to improve passenger satisfaction and reduce congestion and the negative effects of disruptions.
