An innovative component that is receiving a lot of analysis in the project is a new type of coupling, Digital Automatic Coupling (DAC), for automatically coupling and uncoupling of rolling stock in a freight train both the mechanical connection and the air line for braking as well as digitally (power and data connection). DAC is thus considered an enabler for other innovations aimed at increasing efficiency and transparency in rail freight transports.
Other topics include self-propelled freight wagons, data sharing within freight transport chains, and seamless transport, which refers to rail transport without interruptions for, for example, border controls and other operational stops. Track-side condition monitoring through so-called 'Standardised European Checkpoints/Intelligent Video gates' is analyzed and considered an important component for achieving seamless transport.
